Every year, Epic Games hosts its State of Unreal event to show off what it’s been working on. The event involves many of Epic’s products, from Unreal Engine to Fortnite. During Tuesday’s stream, the game developer gave fans a sneak peek at some big updates coming to the game, including the Disney collaboration, new tools for map creators, an AI assistant, and more.

Considering that Fortnite keeps constantly evolving, it’s no surprise that Epic still has big plans for it. After all, the game is still the leader of the battle royale genre, despite being out for nearly eight years.

Epic is getting even more creative with Fortnite

With just a few days left before the new Fortnite season kicks off, Epic Games is turning up the hype. Before the season begins, players can jump into a massive live event called Death Star Sabotage, a perfect finale to the Star Wars-themed season. However, that’s not all that Epic has planned.

Once the new season drops, Epic will release several new tools that will help Fortnite creators make new experiences. The creation process will be simpler and streamlined, and in the near future, the company will add AI assistants that will help creators.

Epic Games also revealed that the plan to release the first Fortnite season in UEFN was postponed for 2026. In the meantime, the company will release many improvements for UEFN, including Scene Graph, which is coming on June 7. Scene Graph is a new feature that will allow creators to control all entities of their games, from gameplay and visuals to audio and special effects, all powered by Verse.

UEFN is getting massive content

The Fortnite creator is also adding an AI assistant that will generate Verse code for map creators. The assistant, which is based on GPT 4.1, will also generate ideas for new maps. The best part? Map creators will also be able to create their own AI-powered NPCs with so-called Persona Device.

Finally, Epic will add lots of other third-party content, including Star Wars, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Squid Game. In fact, UEFN creators will be able to create Squid Game maps starting with the release of Season 3 on June 27.

It’s important to note that the focus of Epic’s event was on Unreal Engine and developers. However, we will get more information about the next season, including its teasers, very soon.
