Epic Games has big plans for Fortnite and its future. Considering how much the game has changed over the past seven years, this doesn’t come as a surprise. However, Fortnite players are not always satisfied with the changes, and Epic’s latest plan has generated a lot of controversy. Many players believe that it’s not a good idea and that it will make the game worse.
As you may already know, the Fortnite developer is considering 200-player lobbies. The Battle Royale mode has always had 100 players in a lobby, so doubling it certainly sounds exciting. Unfortunately, the community doesn’t seem to be sold on this idea, and many players don’t believe that Epic Games will be able to pull it off.
Fortnite players disagree with 200-player lobbies
Reddit user gamingjourno asked the Fortnite community about Epic’s plan to expand lobbies. Tim Sweeney, the company’s CEO, teased this addition in his latest interview, hinting that it may arrive with Unreal Engine 6. Despite being a few years away from this, some Fortnite players are against the idea and don’t think that it’ll be good for the game.
“180 bots and 20 players,” pawo10 wrote, with many players disagreeing with them. “Knowing Fortnite, half of each lobby will be bots,” RYTEK115 added.
Some players complained about the potential problems with last-generation gaming systems and Nintendo Switch. They don’t think that the game runs properly on these systems now, so adding 100 more players would be an overkill. “Chapter 5 already runs pretty poorly on modern consoles no way they’d be able to do this,” Fanboy123ABC shared.
User Ok_Fishman_5960 believes that this “would be a fun LTM but sounds awful to be forced to play.” Many Fortnite players think that this will make the game worse for casuals. “It just means that the casuals are going to have even less chance at winning games,” Nazaki pointed out.
Interestingly, the Fortnite community has generally been against big changes in the game. Yet, despite the opposition, these big changes are a big reason why Fortnite is still popular in 2024. With millions of daily players, the game still dominates the battle royale genre, despite entering its eighth year.
Tim Sweeney pointed out that Unreal Engine 6 won’t come out in 2024. Realistically, Epic likely won’t release the new version of the game engine in a few years, which means that 200-player Fortnite lobbies are still far away.
