Mistakes happen – it’s an old adage of life, and nowhere is it more true than in Fortnite. The battle royale shooter may offer plenty of opportunities for feats of daring heroism, but it can also lead to some embarrassing moments – and the community has been sharing their own stories of humiliation.

Over on the Fortnite subreddit, a thread by Hippoplace invited users to share their tales of woe – but not before sharing their own offerings. “Getting killed right off spawn when I’m carrying a crown, getting a great positional and tactical drop on someone, but their aim is much better and they kill me and emote on me, and getting to the final 1v1 and dying to a storm or fall.” Plenty of relatable responses followed, such as twighlight_hours’ suggestion “Killing yourself with clingers. Happens way more often than I would like to admit.”

Blackburn246’s source of humiliation comes from a common source – other far more skilled players. “When your entire squad gets wiped out by one REALLY good person. You only find out after elimination that they were the last person in their squad.” “And then you find out that they were on 5hp as well,” adds EroticSalmon.

“Picking up the wrong item in a loot pile,” offers up Robbbbb, in an example that gives us plenty of flashbacks. “Or putting it in the wrong slot and not realising it until you’re far away when you suddenly realise you left your gold AR back there.” And in what we have to imagine is a very common occurrence, DumbestFlopAlive also offers up this suggestion: “Throwing heals at my enemies.”

There’s a fair share other examples – with Jaqenjayz offering up “I dunno why because there are definitely more embarrassing things, but for me it’s being the last one alive on my team and not having my guns reloaded in the most important moment while trying to shoot the other guy. It’s just extra humiliating & so, so avoidable.” Of course, there’s the old reliable source of shame “Killing yourself by accidentally walking off a cliff” – says DalekWhoYT.

We love this offering though from laurencamg “Mine is personally the way I panic when I get shot at. Most of the time when I play I forget that there’s actually other people in the game trying to win, and if I get shot from somewhere it’s as if my mouse sensitivity goes up by 300% and all of my keys get messed up. I can’t aim, build, or even see where the other player is, and by the time I realize what is happening I am already dead. and since I can’t build right, instead of there being a simple box around me, there would be random walls, stairs, and pyramids built. It’s so embarrassing when someone is spectating me or if I’m playing with friends.” – we’re very impressed- and yet sympathise – with forgetting that other players are in the game!
