Fortnite just dropped its biggest update of 2024 on October 12 bringing back its annual Halloween event Fortnitemares with the latest additions like two new POIs, bosses, weapons, and even challenges to reward players with free cosmetic items.
The same update also added a spooky theme across the island and introduced the newest Marvel villain Mephisto, after Dr. Doom was defeated in the live event and was rifted away from the island. Due to this, a handful of Fortnite players are quitting the game entirely due to a reason so absurd that even the most OG fans would cringe.
Fortnite players call it quits after Mephisto gets added to the island
Fortnite players like ShadowofEzra shared a clip on X in which they highlight how “a controversial new update in Fortnite, a popular game among children, now gives players the option to “sell their soul” to a demonic figure.”
The user then goes on to show clips of how Fortnite players can make a deal with Mephisto NPC who can be found in The Underworld POI, in exchange for a small amount of health in order to receive weapons and reboot their teammates.
“To unlock certain perks and access a specific character, players must navigate to the underworld section of the map and sacrifice their health. This triggers an eerie animation where their character appears to strike a deal with the devil-like figure”, the user continued in their post.
Several other users who agreed with the sentiment turned in their thoughts and one wrote, “This is a clear example of how lack of Biblical knowledge is wreaking havoc on our children.” Another user commented, “This is disgusting. Bye Bye Epic Games. As for me and my house, we will serve Jesus.”
However, on the other hand, those who thought this was an absurd reason to quit the game turned in their comments and rallied against the quitters. “Boo hoo, it’s a video game. This is rage bait fr”, said one such user.
“Bro it’s a Marvel character that is a demon put in a video game that celebrates Halloween. People need to stop finding issues with every little detail of life”, commented another player.
As of now, there are two sides to the same coin: parents whose children play Fortnite, and actual parents who play Fortnite themselves, with opposing viewpoints on the problem. As far as Epic is concerned, Mephisto is clearly a Marvel character brought to the game and the new villain for the current season until it concludes on November 2.
