Adding the OG mode to Fortnite has proven to be a great move for Epic Games. Not only has it resulted in a higher player count and the return of many OG players, but it’s also been a great alternative for those who want simpler gameplay. Unfortunately, Epic has released way too many OG modes at once, which has become an issue.

With the release of the next Fortnite season, Epic will remove another OG mode. This mode hasn’t been popular over the past few months, which is why the game developer decided to shut it down to improve matchmaking health.

Another Fortnite OG mode will shut down

Earlier this year, Epic Games disabled the Fortnite OG Ranked Zero Build mode. This mode was attracting only a few hundred players at a time, so maintaining it made no sense. In just a few days, the game creator will remove the classic ranked OG mode. Considering its decreasing player count, this decision is not surprising at all.

This game mode peaked at 181,070 players in its first week. However, it’s drastically lost its popularity since then. Since late April, it failed to reach a peak of 5,000 concurrent players. As a ranked mode, it uses player’s divisions for matchmaking, along with playlists and regions. Due to this, it’s nearly impossible to get 100-player lobbies.

The mode will be removed on June 7, with the release of the next Fortnite season. The good news is that the regular OG mode is doing just fine, peaking at around 50,000 concurrent players every day. Its Zero Build version is slightly less popular, peaking at 35,000 concurrent players most of the days.

Removing the ranked OG mode will improve matchmaking health for other modes, which is a positive change. Epic Games may bring the mode back in the future if deemed necessary, but Fortnite seems just fine without numerous ranked modes.
