Despite recently entering its eighth year, Fortnite keeps reaching new heights. The game has millions of players every single day and has broken numerous records. According to Tim Sweeney, Epic Games CEO, Fortnite is doing better than ever. The battle royale title recently hit new records in success, which is impressive, to say the least.
The company’s executive revealed some interesting details about the game at Unreal Fest 2024. This event came just a year after Epic laid off hundreds of workers. However, it appears that the company has bounced back and is financially stable.
Fortnite hit new records, Epic Games CEO claims
Back in September 2023, Epic Games laid off 830 employees. This was certainly a difficult situation for the company, which claimed that it was spending more money than it earned. Just a year later, however, the situation is different. Tim Sweeney revealed that both Fortnite and the Epic Games Store hit new records in concurrency, as reported by GIBiz.
“I’m happy to tell you now that the company is financially sound, and that Fortnite and the Epic Games Store have hit new records in concurrency and success.”

The executive also said that the company “had to get its finances in order,” which resulted in massive layoffs. However, Epic Games has rebuilt in just 12 months and is now doing great with both Fortnite and its digital marketplace.
Sweeney revealed that the battle royale game had 110 million monthly active users over the holidays. To put this into perspective, Fortnite had 78 million MAUs back in August 2018, which is generally considered the game’s first peak.
Chapter 5 has brought a lot of success for Epic Games, and the recent live event peaked at 5.6 million concurrent players. With another OG season coming in November and Chapter 6 in December, we expect Fortnite’s player count to skyrocket once again.
Fortnite’s ability to constantly evolve and adapt has proven to be a winning formula for Epic, ensuring its ongoing success in the gaming industry. For now, we don’t know what the future holds, but we have no doubt that it’s bright.
