Epic Games’ fight against Apple has resulted in Fortnite’s ban from the App Store. The popular video game was removed from Apple’s digital storefront in August 2020, affecting millions of users. However, Fortnite is coming back to iOS devices in 2024, Epic recently confirmed.

Epic’s fight against the tech giant is not done yet, however. Fortnite will return to iPhones and iPads in Europe, yet the other regions still won’t have access to it. Will this change in the future? It’s hard to say for sure, but considering that Epic lost its court battle against Apple, this is unlikely.

iOS players will soon be able to play Fortnite

If you own an iPhone or iPad, you cannot currently download Fortnite on it. The only way to play Fortnite on iOS devices is through cloud gaming services. This method comes with many disadvantages, which makes it far from a great alternative.

Fortunately, Fortnite players who reside in the European Union will soon regain access to the game. While Fortnite won’t return to the App Store, it will be available through the Epic Games Store, a third-party digital marketplace. The release date is currently unknown, although Epic will provide more details regarding the timeline in the future.

While the EU has done a decent job against Apple’s alleged monopoly, Fortnite will not be available on the App Store in other regions. This includes the United States, where Epic Games suffered a crushing defeat against the iPhone manufacturer.

Considering that the Epic Games Store and Fortnite will be available in Europe, chances are that everyone will be able to access them by changing the region on their iOS device. However, this method may not work if Apple decides to region-lock the hardware.

EU’s Digital Markets Act goes into effect on March 6, which is why we expect Fortnite to return to iOS within a few months.
