Epic Games has an important announcement regarding age rating and parental controls in Fortnite. The company partnered with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) to add internationally-recognized age and content ratings to its popular video game.
This is certainly a step in the right direction, as parents will benefit from it. However, this also means that island creators will have to go through a few extra steps to make sure their content is suitable for all ages. In the long run, the partnership should improve the quality of the game.

Fortnite island creators will soon have to comply with IARC ratings
With the release of Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) earlier this year, Epic Games added many new capabilities to its popular video game. Thanks to the new tool, creators can now add custom 3D models, animations, and much more.
While this is certainly a positive thing, it also comes with a couple of disadvantages. Epic is primarily worried about the content players put in their maps, including copyright-protected and sensitive content. Fortunately, IARC ratings should help with this.
Starting October 16, all Fortnite island creators will have to fill in the IARC questionnaire to get age ratings for their islands. This is an important step that could potentially affect island monetization. Players who don’t fill in the questionnaire will have their islands delisted, meaning that no one else is going to be able to play them.
At the same time, parents and guardians will be able to use new parental controls to set content age rating limits. These controls can be used to block all creator-made islands above a preferred rating. In addition, improved parental controls will have the option to disable the ability for children to design their own islands in the Creative mode.
