The Fortnite Team has nerfed its monstrously murderous mechs, as revealed in a balance adjustments news post published yesterday.

Last week, Epic Games addressed the animosity towards the B.R.U.T.E. mechs and stated, ‘we regularly have and will continue to release content that shakes up gameplay in Fortnite in unexpected ways.’ It justified the immense combat advantage the mechs provide because this battle royale is about bundling players of all skill levels together to create a spectacle, so that ‘anyone can win’.

Epic Games held fast and confirmed that it would not nerf the mechs any further, based on that core philosophy. But now, the B.R.U.T.E. has received an extensive rework in the latest balance patch. The rocket launcher now fires six rockets instead of 10, and has slowed the fire rate by 56 per cent with a 42 per cent smaller blast radius. The dash has a longer cooldown and boosting in the air has been slowed by 33 per cent. Automatic harvesting of materials that the mech smashes through is now removed entirely.

‘We want to reduce a B.R.U.T.E.’s ability to engage and disengage at long distances to encourage a more strategic approach to an encounter,’ Epic Games said in the news post. ‘In general, we hope to shift B.R.U.T.E.s away from being highly mobile and put more emphasis on their already defensive nature.’

Although it doesn’t satisfy those who want the mechs gone, hopefully this update will dissuade further antagonism and contention directed at the Fortnite Team, due to the notorious balance distortion in the battle royale.
