Fortnite has had one of the biggest transformations over the past few years. Back in September 2017, when the Battle Royale mode just came out, the game was simple and straightforward. Now, nearly eight years later, Fortnite has many new features and game modes. The game is arguably much better than before, and Epic Games will keep evolving it.

According to a recent leak, Fortnite will soon get another game-changing feature. This feature was added with Chapter 6 – Season 4, although the game developer hasn’t enabled it yet. However, we might get it in Chapter 7, which is set to arrive in late 2025.

Fortnite is getting proximity chat in the Battle Royale mode

In the summer of 2024, Fortnite added proximity chat as an experimental feature in the Creative mode. This option allowed map creators to add a new layer to their maps, making them more fun and intense. Now, a year later, the game developer is working on adding this feature to Battle Royale and Zero Build.

According to Wenso, a reputable leaker, Epic separated files for Creative’s proximity chat with the latest update. This allows the game developer to add the feature in Battle Royale, although the exact release date is currently unknown.

The leaker also revealed that players will be able to enable or disable proximity chat in Fortnite. The feature will likely be turned off by default, and it will be possible to activate it through the in-game settings.

Unfortunately, the leaker did not reveal anything regarding the potential date. Chapter 7 should come out in early December 2025, and considering that each chapter brings groundbreaking features and mechanics, proximity chat may arrive with the next one. The new chapter may also bring pet companions, which are absolutely adorable!
