Those looking forward to the upcoming Alan Wake 2 but want a catch up on the story may want to turn to battle royale shooter, Fortnite.

We already knew that the character – who’s sequel game is being published by Epic Games – is coming to the game as part of the annual Fortnitemares celebrations this year. But now developer Remedy Entertainment has gone one step further and created an entire playable custom experience for players to download in Fortnite and experience the events of the series so far in a whole new way. Alan and friends show up in the Fortnite Alan Wake Flashback experience, with familiar locations and plenty of nods, even – by the looks of the trailer – some classic gameplay from the DLC where Alan gets to shine his torch at floating words.

Remedy Entertainment worked with custom creators Spiral House and Zen Creative on the endeavour, which was built in the Unreal Engine for Fortnite. Anyone who wants to download it can do so free of charge by using the code 3426-5561-3374 or searching for Alan Wake Flashback in the Discover tab. Alan Wake himself meanwhile will arrive on October 26, along with some suitable cosmetics in the in-game Fortnite Shop. That’s just a day before the Alan Wake 2 release date on October 27.

In the meantime, fans are hoping that surveys pointing towards a possible Fortnite and Five Nights at Freddy’s crossover are true, and think they’ve sussed out when Michael Myers will drop in the game. For everything else in Fortnitemares check out our handy guide.
