Forspoken, the upcoming PlayStation fantasy adventure from Square Enix, has a PEGI 18 rating, citing bad language and alcohol.
This is quite strange, and also quite funny. The trailers for the game wouldn’t have you believe that you were in for a dark and gritty time.
The PEGI listing does go into some detail on the decision:
“The player’s character can order alcoholic drinks at a bar. The drinks affect the player’s statistics, but do so in a random manner with negative outcomes possible.
“The game also includes scenes of realistic violence, including a woman being set upon by a group of thugs who punch and kick her and hold a gun to her head. There is also violence against fantasy characters, who are knocked backwards by attacks and bleed yellow blood.”
Along with these reasons PEGI also cites the fact that there Forspoken has in-game purchases. As well as that, at one point, the main character contemplates suicide, while inebriated.
Forspoken was, once upon a time, known as Project Athia. Square Enix and Luminous Productions announced the game at the Future of Gaming event in 2020. Now, it has not only a name but a PEGI rating, which surely suggests that its release date, October 11th, 2022, is unlikely to change.
