The first Gears of War 3 trailer has been unleashed upon the world, which you can check out right here.

Premiered overnight on US chat show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the trailer, called “Ashes to Ashes”, shows muscle-bound marine Marcus Fenix and a bearded Dominic Santiago fending off horrible Locust monsters in an ash-strewn battlefield.

The clip shows Dom bursting through what appear to be ash statues – people frozen in time – as he runs from a Locust horde.

Dom trips, and appears done for, but Marcus turns up to save the day.

The action plays out to a song called “Heron Blue” by Sun Kil Moon, from the album “April”.

During a chat with Fallon, Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski revealed that the game will “probably” be out on April 8 2011.

He described the new Locust type shown in the trailer as a “Lambent… crazy tentacle monsters that can mutate while you’re fighting them”.

There’s also a double shotgun – sure to please those who play Gears of War 2 online – and, for the first time, female soldiers.

“A lot of the fans have been asking for that one for a while,” Bleszinski said.
