Nintendo Gamer Magazine has published the first details of Assassin’s Creed 3 for Wii U, revealing how the Wii U tablet controller will be utilised.

The magazine states that the tablet controller will act as a link to the Aminus, offering a persistent map to aid navigation. Animus database entries will also pop-up on the tablet’s screen, displaying on the controller rather than interrupting the action on the main game screen.

The link to the Animus also means players can quickly access character bios and other related information that would typically be hidden behind game menus within the main game.

Gameplay will also be affected, with the promise of touchscreen weapon selection, providing quick changes from dual-wielding to a single weapon with a single touch.

The tablet’s screen will also be used to provide an alternate view for Eagle Vision, with the accelerometer making camera control possible.

Set against the backdrop of the American Revolution in the late 18th century, Assassin’s Creed III introduces a new hero, Ratohnaké:ton, of Native American and English heritage. Thankfully for all video game journalists, he adopts the name Connor in the war between the Assassins and Templars.

Assassin’s Creed III will be released October 31 for Xbox 360 and PS3, Ubisoft has announced. PC and Wii U versions are confirmed, but still to be dated.
