The hotly-anticipated Final Fantasy VII remake will not be coming with any new characters, director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed.

“There won’t be new characters. As for the visual taste, we’re doing them to match today’s visuals and appear closer to reality,” he said in an interview with Famitsu (via Gematsu).

Nomura was also asked about the teaser trailer shown during Sony’s press conference, responding: “We’re using part of that video in the game. We’re going to raise the quality even more.”

The director also clarifies that players will be able to play it first on PS4, but not whether or not the game is exclusive to that platform: “You’ll be able to play it first on PlayStation 4, that’s for certain. We’re not thinking beyond that yet, so after that is undecided.”

Finally, Nomura briefly touches upon changes coming to the game mechanics: “I can’t share details, but we’re changing it to a more realistic system.”

There’s no launch date yet for the remake, but the PC port of Final Fantasy VII comes to PS4 this October.
