Update:

Since the publication of this story, the Final Fantasy XVI team have taken to social media to say that they’re “aware that a small number of physical copies of Final Fantasy XVI are being circulated.” They continued, “We are in the process of a thorough investigation into illegitimate acquisitions and are acting to limit this ahead of the official launch of the game.” Closing out the statement the Final Fantasy XVI team noted that they will be actively taking down any leaked content of the game before its official release.

Original story:

With Final Fantasy 16 just a week away and set to launch on June 22, players are beginning to batten down the hatches and avoid social media at all costs as some physical editions of the game have already made their way to players.

With physical editions of the games getting distributed earlier and earlier in recent years it seems Final Fantasy 16 was unable to avoid some early copies of the game finding their way into the hands of players before June 22. The Final Fantasy 16 Reddit has had a number of posts from players showing off photographic evidence of their physical copies of the game. While no gameplay from the released version of the game appears to have been shown yet its safe to say that other social media platforms won’t be as strict about Final Fantasy 16 spoilers as the game’s own Reddit page.

Many players shared their intentions to go on a complete social media vacation while they wait for the game to officially release with user DenzelVilliers saying, “Okay so it’s really happening, time for me to leave this subreddit and come back just when I clear the game, goodbye guys and have fun.” Alongside this, there was a lot of sympathy from players shown to the mods to the Final Fantasy 16 Reddit with one user noting, “I feel really bad for the mods because they’re going to have to look at the spoilers for the sake of keeping this place spoiler free…”

This post came after another user yesterday repost an image from 4chan showing off yet another physical copy of Final Fantasy 16. This post at the time generated probably the greatest way of saying “I’m leaving the internet” as user Souther-Monk-4102 said, “Thank you all for the time together, I’m usually okay with spoilers. Journey before Destination, Strength before Weakness and all that. But sometimes weakness is needed. See you all next weekend.”

With the game set to release soon a new Final Fantasy 16 teaser sees Clive’s Ifrit facing off against…an evil Ifrit? Alongside this Final Fantasy 16 appears to be heavy on incest, with Game of Thrones comparisons rife.
