EA Sports has released a new trailer for FIFA 22, showcasing the latest entry’s Volta Football mode and its new features.
As detailed in a pitch note deep dive, the mode will include a new Skill Meter system. You’ll be able to fill up this meter by performing actions like fancy passes, wall passes, nutmegs and skill moves. The bar itself is broken up into three sections, and filling each one increases your goal multiplier. Level one makes your goals worth double, two is 3x and three makes each goal worth four points.
Elsewhere, another new mechanic is Signature Abilities, which a special moves you can assign to your Volta player. Over the course of the match, your signature ability will fill up slowly until it starts flashing. Once it does, you’ll hit the right shoulder button to set it off. The three signature abilities include Power Strike, Pure Pace and Aggressive Tackle.
More new additions include the Volta Arcade which will offer up a range of wild and weird party modes every weekend. These will include games like Dodgeball, Foot Tennis, Disco Lava and Quick Strike to name but four. One thing that won’t be returning however, is the story mode. EA say they’ve removed the feature from Volta this year to “focus on an online, social-centric experience” within the mode.
