FIFA 17’s opening month sales were 13% higher than last year’s FIFA 16, EA has revealed.

According to the publisher, the game’s new story mode ‘The Journey’ “helped bring 20% more players into FIFA 17 in the first week over last year’s game”, with almost two-thirds of players said to have given it a go.

Ultimate Team revenue has also increased by 23% year-on-year, although the game’s total unit sales have yet to be announced.

FIFA 17 shot to the top of the UK charts following its release in September, and sustained strong sales in subsequent weeks, too, preventing Mafia 3 from taking the top spot on its release. Tom thought it was pretty good, too, agreeing that the new story mode made FIFA 17 the most appealing FIFA “in years” and praising it for delivering “an excellent game on the pitch”.
