FIFA 16 will be the first game in the series to feature female cover athletes, EA Sports has announced.
Women’s World Cup winner Alex Morgan will star alongside Lionel Messi on the cover of the game in the US, while Christine Sinclair will star on the box in Canada.
“It is an incredible honor to be one of the first women featured on the cover of EA SPORTS FIFA,” said Morgan. “I know people all over the world play this game and I’m really excited that FIFA 16 is putting such an important spotlight on women’s soccer. And now to share the cover with today’s greatest player is surreal.”
“This year’s World Cup showcased the unbelievable talent and skill in women’s soccer,” added Sinclair. “I’m thrilled that EA SPORTS is celebrating female athletes in FIFA 16. To be featured in the game and to promote women’s soccer with Alex is really special and another exciting step for women in sports.”
In the UK, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson stars on the cover, something which fans weren’t too pleased about.
FIFA 16 will be the first game in the series to feature female athletes, with 12 women’s national teams, including England, America, Canada and Germany, set to be included. The game launches on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on September 25.
