FIFA 13 sold 353,000 units within its first 24 hours on sale in North America, EA Sports has announced.

EA’s “generation-defining” football game, which launched in the States on Tuesday and launches across the UK today, broke the record set by last year’s FIFA 12, with sales up by 42 per cent year-on-year.

From those 353,000 copies, North American gamers played 1.4 million online games within the first 24 hours. 1.3m copies of the game have been pre-ordered globally.

“We’re thrilled that fans throughout North America have embraced FIFA Soccer 13 in such a big way,” said EA Sports.
