FIFA 11 sold a massive 821,000 units in its opening week in the UK, EA has revealed to MCV.

The latest instalment in EA’s blockbuster football franchise rocketed to the top of the All Platforms All Prices UK video game chart, easily outpacing the competition. The game’s sales generated a whopping £28.93 million, more than the total value of the UK video games market in any single week so far in 2010 – this includes the Halo: Reach and Red Dead Redemption launch weeks.

FIFA 11’s first week total was, as expected, hugely front-loaded, with 684,602 units sold during its first 24 hours on the market – the second highest first day behind Modern Warfare 2’s 1.23 million.

“FIFA 11 is the most critically and commercially successful football launch ever and that’s something the whole studio team in Vancouver, the EA publishing organisation and our retail partners can be immensely proud of,” EA’sUK marketing director Stuart Lang told MCV.

As with many high profile releases, retailers both on the highstreet and online were battling to offer consumers the lowest FIFA 11 price. The supermarket giants came out on top for bricks and mortar stores, while is the cheapest online store.
