Street Fighter Update:

The family of Bruce Lee has addressed the comments made by Street Fighter V composer Daniel Lindholm, with regard to Fei Long.

In a statement on Twitter, The Lee family said:

“We never made any comments of this nature. We have no idea who @DanielLindholm says his ‘close friends’ of the family are, but his comments are entirely false surrounding the Bruce Lee Family.”

So there you have it. Fei Long fans can breathe a sight of relief. And, presumably, so can fans of Marshall Law from Tekken.

Original story:

Street Fighter V composer Daniel Lindholm has said that Fei Long will no longer feature in future Street Fighter games.

During a YouTube Q&A livestream (via VG 24/7, Lindholm talked about the situation:

“I do have other sources, not only [from] Capcom, but friends of mine in the U.S., who are very close friends with the Lee family. They have basically said that any kind of resemblance to Mr. Bruce Lee is now omitted for comedic effect. It needs to be honourable. That’s why we won’t see Fei Long again. Ever.”

It is maybe understandable that the Lee estate would want to protect Bruce Lee’s image. However, Fei Long was a fairly serious and focussed character. Though, granted, if he fights Blanka, for example, who is green and charged with electricity and likes to cannonball himself at people, then that could be seen as comedic.
