For years, parts of the FIFA community have believed in scripting or DDA (Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment) in EA’s flagship football game.

The theory goes that the game automatically changes the difficulty mid-match to level the playing field. Now, believers in this theory say they have proof of the phenomenon, as shown in FC 24 gameplay.

We’re here to give you the most informed opinions on the situation before you take to socials and get involved in the debate yourself. So, is scripting and DDA in FC 24 Ultimate Team? Read on and find out!

What is DDA in FC 24?

Before we delve into the situation further, let us first explain what DDA is and how it would affect FC 24. DDA stands for Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment.

It is a mechanic where the game changes the difficulty level based on the player’s skill during a match. In the FUT community, this is often referred to as scripting or momentum (although there are slight differences in meaning with each word).

In a previous post on the matter, EA stated: “We’ve publicly said before that we do not use any scripting or “Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment” (DDA) or anything similar that would automatically adjust the difficulty of gameplay in FIFA, Madden and NHL Ultimate Team matches.”

This was challenged in a lawsuit that alleged EA did use DDA in Ultimate Team modes, which was then dropped. You can read the full statement from EA on Fair Play and Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment here.

So, why are we still discussing the matter?

FC 24 DDA exposed

No matter how much it is denied, some FIFA – and now FC – players will always believe there is scripting in the game. This is more understandable when against an AI opposition, as it would make for a more challenging game.

However, in Player v Player matches, it should just come down to skill level. This is especially more true in more competitive PvP modes, such as FC 24 FUT Champs.

So, when a video pops up like the one below, people are going to ask serious questions of EA.

As you can see, whenever the player concedes a goal, a pop-up appears notifying of a difficulty change. Multiple players have reported this too, showing it is widespread throughout the game.

This will almost certainly be a visual glitch, or at least will be called one by EA. However, we are yet to see a statement about it from the EA Sports FC Direct Communication account on X (formerly Twitter).

People who believe that FC 24 contains DDA suggest that when a goal is scored, the AI-controlled players of the winning team are lowered. Or that the AI level on both sides is lowered. Or that the team that conceded has the AI level lowered.

And there is the issue – there is no consensus on the situation or how DDA would affect the game. There is no definitive proof of its existence and a total denial from the game developers that it is included in online modes.

“DDA online doesn’t exist”

@NealGuides is a strong believer that “DDA online doesn’t exist”. He has been very vocal on X in addressing the situation, trying to put the belief to bed.

He has also created a new video specifically on the situation, which you can check out below.

The debate on scripting and DDA in FC 24 will likely continue, and carry on in further editions of the series too. Ultimately, there will be people on both sides of the argument who won’t agree until there is concrete proof one way or another.

For now, we have to trust what EA has told us about the game via Pitch Notes and Deep Dives.
