While it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for Team FOLON’s massive Fallout London mod, a few snags haven’t stopped the game’s dedicated fan base from fully enjoying their return to a sprawling post-apocalyptic metropolis. Although constant crashes have been a recurring experience for most players, reception towards the DLC-sized mod has largely been positive due to the amount of care, precision, and passion the developers put into creating it.
But don’t take our word for it. Praise for Fallout London has been especially resounding on Reddit, where players—like user Typical-Mistake182—are showering the mod with compliments. “It’s quite early in my playthrough, but so far, this mod has exceeded my expectations,” they said. “If my first hour of play is any indication of what will follow, I can confidently state that I expect to enjoy this much more than FO4 vanilla.”
However, instead of similarly positive comments filling the rest of the thread, other fans bombarded the post with complaints about CTD (crash to desktop) issues. Based on several responses, numerous players have seemingly been unable to play Fallout London because of it. Although the cause for these problems has yet to be officially identified, some users speculate that it’s due to a “memory leak where stuff accumulates” until your PC has no choice but to shut down the culprit.
Luckily, Team FOLON has provided a list of potential solutions for these CTD issues via their Discord channel. It’s also worth noting that crashes after launching the game (like one that occurs at the end of the opening train ride) are already being investigated by the dev team. This should at least mean that a lasting fix for these problems will arrive sooner rather than later.
If none of the fixes the developers have provided work, one player may have come up with a solution for these CTD issues. According to Reddit user Status_Jellyfish_213, their fix is pretty straightforward: install the Buffout 4 mod to the Fallout 4 folder by following the instructions on the page. Then, go into the Fallout 4 folder and find the f4se_loader.exe file. You can create a desktop shortcut for the .exe file and run it as an administrator afterward. Once you launch Fallout London through this script extender, your CTD issues should subside.
