F1 23 has introduced several new features this year, with the return of Braking Point one of the major changes. The returning storyline mode has received positive reviews so far as Aiden Jackson and Devon Butler lock horns once more on and off the track.

EA has also placed great emphasis on improving the handling systems in the game. This is noticeable already as the stability and consistency give you greater confidence when using either a pad or a wheel. However, one new feature has not hit the ground running.

F1 23 red flag

Fittingly, the introduction of red flags to the game has received a red flag. Red flags are a key new feature in F1 23 as they add to the realism of race day. Red flags exist in racing, so why shouldn’t they exist in the gaming simulation?

Unfortunately, the red flag feature does not seem to be working properly, with plenty of fans reporting one specific bug. Interestingly though, the red flag itself does not appear to be the problem, and bringing the race to a halt seems to be working just fine.

The race will then resume as you would expect with seemingly no issues. It is only once you see the chequered flag that the issue rears its head. For whatever reason, the game does not acknowledge that the race resumed after the restart.

Upon completing the race, the game will revert the race results to the standings from when the race was initially red-flagged. While frustrating, it does not look like this issue will be around for too much longer…

First update

Most games now release a day one patch, touching up some of the minor issues found in the game, and we expect the same for F1 23. Speaking exclusively to Lee Mather, EA Senior Creative Director, Mather confirmed that EA was aware of the issue and a fix will be imminent.

“We do have a timeline of when things will be resolved if there are issues and that that is on the list,” explained Mather. “It’s likely to be part of the first update that we make to the game.”

Whether the first update will indeed be a day one patch remains to be seen, but it could come in the form of a quick hotfix. EA has already released a hotfix for two elements of the game, so the red flag issue could be resolved very quickly.

F1 23 hotfix

The first F1 23 hotfix has already been released. Despite the game not being fully launched, EA has now adjusted two elements of the game, including one to the gameplay which has proved so popular thus far.

Mather eased any fears that the gameplay would change, stating that the issue was “a small oversight in one of the lines of code.” Players using traction control are unlikely to have noticed the error either. The fix brings consistency in the throttle mechanic across game modes and will have minimal impact on the current gameplay.

Realigned throttle application in F1 World, My Team Career, and Driver Career modes
