With next-gen games costing more than a lot of us want to pay, news of an entirely free game comes as a rather big surprise. While F.E.A.R. Combat is for PC owners only, and comprised entirely of multiplayer game modes, it sounds chock-a-block with content.

From August 17, everyone will be able to download the standalone multiplayer game, which features 10 game modes, 19 maps, 12 different weapons, Punkbuster support to prevent cheating, and seeing as this is the full online component of last year’s full retail game, it’ll be a lot of fun.

In order to use the game you’ll have to head over to the official F.E.A.R. Combat website and register. You’ll be given a keycode that you can use when the game is made available to download on August 17.
