Last Friday saw the release of the demo for F.E.A.R. The highly anticipated FPS from Monolith will be released later in the year by Vivendi Universal Games, but those of you eager to get a taste of what to expect can download the rather large (600 MB +) demo for the game.
While the demo is short, it lets you play around with the slow-mo action and take a look at a few of the weapons that will be in the final release. Anyone unsure if their system will be able to handle the game will also be able to give it a whirl.
After testing the demo on our more than adequate gaming rig it’s clear that this is a game that will push PCs to their limits. Our Athlon 64, Geforce 6800 GT equipped PC struggled to run at a smooth frame rate with higher than medium settings, and physics and shadows needed to be set to low.
Once the game was running smoothly we found it to be a hard, but enjoyable experience. Enemies demonstrate some good AI and the visuals really are quite stunning, with special praise going to the particle work, with bits of dust and debris flying everywhere during a gun-fight. If the game engine can be tweaked a little before release, this could be the FPS of the year.
For details on where to download the demo head over to the official F.E.A.R. website.
