Ezio Auditore is to join the cast of Soul Calibur V, Namco Bandai has revealed. According to the official bumf, released this morning, Assassin’s Creed’s homicidal hero will use a generous selection of his iconic murder-tools – including the Stiletto, Roman Longsword and his famous secret-recipe Hidden Blade.

Unlike previous Soul Calibur guest stars, Mr Auditore will be appearing in both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.

Namco Bandai has also revealed the inevitable Collector’s Edition, which comes in a box that’s been styled to look like a book. That aside, it also comes with an art book, a making of DVD, the original soundtrack and a DLC card that lets you acquire the Black Knight and Paladin armour sets. Pre-ordering the game from certain shops will also get you Dampierre, the conman from Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny.

Soul Calibur V will be released in Europe on February 3 next year. You can read our preview here.

Ezio makes a lot more sense as a guest than Link, Spawn, Heihachi Mishima, Darth Vader or Yoda. And thank the Lords of Gaming that we won’t have that bloody Starkiller chap this time around.

Although we wouldn’t mind if he popped up in a minigame, one where he commits seppuku to make amends for the shame of The Force Unleashed II.
