The new Army of Darkness update, for Evil Dead: The Game, adds a new map, new weapons, and a solo exploration mode. It’s out today, and it’s free.

Check out the trailer below:

The description reads:

“Enter the free Castle Kandar map! Take on Deadites with new medieval weaponry: the Mace and Explosive Crossbow! Plus new premium outfits and the new Exploration Mode!”

The new map, it must be said, is Castle Kandar, which featured in the movie. The new weapons include the Mace and the Explosive Crossbow. And there are also some paid cosmetic items for your perusal. The Ash S-Mart Employee Outfit and Gallant Knight Outfit are available for £2.49 apiece. There is also the Medieval Bundle for, £6.69. That includes Henry the Red’s Scottish Vibe Outfit, Lord Arthur’s Battle Prep Outfit, Evil Ash, and a Gilded Attire costume pack for the Necromancer Demon army.

All in all, good times. Evil Dead: The Game was a great love letter to Sam Raimi’s films, even if it had its shortfalls. Mostly, it was an exquisite celebration of Bruce Campbell. I wrote a piece about Campbell and about the game, in which I said:

“Few men are as richly equipped to take the injustices of life on the chin, and you wish he was surrounded here by a better game—that you could cut him out and whip him through a portal into something more interesting. You love him, and you want to set him free.”
