FromSoftware’s games aren’t really known for making players feel “happy and comfortable”, but that’s one of the goals for Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki.

While the director recently apologised for forgetting to add a two-player co-op option, they explained in a new interview that the team is continually balancing the upcoming multiplayer game to make sure players are happy and comfortable when playing the title.

Elden Ring Nightreign will make you feel comfortable

Speaking to GamesRadar, Ishizaki explained that he’s “very excited, [and] a little nervous” going into the game’s launch. While the director is still “confident” about the multiplayer title, the team is balancing the title until day one (and presumably after as well).

The game director explained that the final weeks of development are “all about the game balance at this point” with the team spending a lot of time to make the game fair. However, the director also explained that the team is trying to make players actually feel comfortable while playing.

“We really try to tweak things until the last minute. We’re busy fine-tuning, getting the most out of any single session,” he said. “We want players to feel happy and comfortable in each session, so we’re really trying to get that player comfort and that play feel just really fine-tuned until the very end.”

When I look back at my journey with Soulslike games, I typically don’t think of my experience as comfortable. Maybe the hardcore Souls crowd do feel comfortable while playing FromSoftware’s library of hardcore RPGs, but I typically feel tense, scared, nervous and sometimes a little angry. Typical games journalist, am I right, guys?

Elden Ring Nightreign isn’t a full-fledged sequel, but the upcoming multiplayer game is very exciting. As one of two major multiplayer titles from the studio, FromSoftware also promises that the studio will return to single-player development very soon. However, there will be a lot of post-launch support for the new game.
