EA Sports is developing a new college football game for PlayStation 4 & Xbox One, executive vice president Andrew Wilson has revealed.

News of the unannounced title followed shortly after the NCAA revealed that it would not be renewing its partnership with EA Sports as a result of “the current business climate and costs of litigation”.

Both the NCAA and EA have faced multiple legal battles following accusations of player likenesses being used without permission.

“By now, most fans will have heard that EA’s licensing agreement with the NCAA is set to expire and that we have agreed to part ways,” Wilson wrote on EA’s official blog The Beat. “I’m sure gamers are wondering what this means.

“This is simple: EA Sports will continue to develop and publish college football games, but we will no longer include the NCAA names and marks. Our relationship with the Collegiate Licensing Company is strong and we are already working on a new game for next generation consoles which will launch next year and feature the college teams, conferences and all the innovation fans expect from EA Sports.”

EA Sports’ college football title is the fifth game from the publisher confirmed to be in development for next-generation consoles, joining Madden NFL 25, NBA Live 14, FIFA 14 and UFC.

Madden, NBA and FIFA are all expected to launch alongside PS4 & Xbox One this Christmas.
