EA has talked about why it decided to deliver a Euro 2012 experience via DLC for FIFA 12 rather than produce an entirely new standalone game.

“We felt this was the best way to extend that experience and deliver fresh new content to our fans,” Steve Frost, communications manager at EA told Gamasutra.

“We expect footy fans will want the opportunity to play UEFA Euro 2012 and experience what it takes to win the tournament under the same conditions their favourite nation will face in the weeks ahead,” added Frost.

Frost believes that people who haven’t bought FIFA 12 will pick it up alongside the DLC expansion in order to experience Euro 2012.

“We expect that some fans who may not have FIFA 12 will want to play Euro 2012 and therefore purchase both, but the bigger opportunity for us is to offer our loyal and passionate FIFA fans new content,” Frost stated.

The FIFA 12 UEFA EURO 2012 DLC is due for release on April 24 and will cost £15.99 to download. EA has confirmed that the DLC will have a retail presence as redeemable download codes.
