EA has today announced that Boom Blox, a new title for Wii developed in collaboration with acclaimed motion picture producer and director Steven Spielberg, is to be released in May 2008.

Described as a “high energy” game for kids and the entire family, Boom Blox features more than 300 levels and a cast of more than 30 wacky characters. Also included is an easy to use in-game editor to enable players to express their creativity.

“I am a gamer myself, and I really wanted to create a video game that I could play with my kids,” said Steven Spielberg. “Boom Blox features an enormous amount of fun challenges and cool scenarios for your kids to solve or for you to master together.”

“My inspiration for this game came while I was playing the Wii for the first time,” added Spielberg. “From the initial concept to what the game is today, it’s always been built around the innovations the Wii brings to playing games. Boom Blox plays on the enjoyment of building and knocking down blocks, something that can appeal innately to kids and adults of all ages.”

Boom Blox includes activities for single-players plus c-op and versus gameplay, set across four themed environments: Tiki, Medieval, Frontier, and Haunted. Any level in the game can also be remixed by the player in Create Mode using props, blocks and characters that have been unlocked.

WiiConnect24 support will also make it possible to share remixed levels with friends, challenging them to solve your newly created puzzle.

Expect more details over the coming months as the game’s May release nears.
