Tragnarion Studios has announced the development of Doodle Hex, an entirely new title for the Nintendo DS. The game sees players, or Doodlers, compete in head-to-head battle by drawing runes onto the DS touch screen to create powerful spells to inflict on their opponent.

These spells include blasts of fire, screen shake, spell reversal and even the classic human to frog transformation. Speed of thought will be key in order to outsmart the opposition, as will the player’s ability to accurately and quickly draw simple shapes.

The game’s puzzle mode will see players competing in tournaments and challenges, which upon completion will unlock further runes and spells which can be added to a customised spell book. Over 200 runes are featured in the game and players can also swap spells over Wi-Fi.

Doodle Hex is scheduled for release early in 2008.
