DOAX2 is the sequel to Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball on the Xbox, and Famitsu has been spilling some juicy info on how the game is shaping up on the Xbox 360. The game’s currently around 60 % complete, producer Tomonobu Itagaki telling Famitsu: “Excluding beach volleyball, the game engine is mostly complete. For beach volleyball, we had the previous title, so we left it until the end, but since we’re at last finishing up the other areas, we’re at the point where it’s about time we start making the new beach volleyball.

Bikinis and swimming costumes will be plentiful and Itagaki is hoping to match the original in the quantity stakes. Moving away from the smaller details, Vacation mode is where the bulk of the game lies – linking up all the game modes and games into one two-week vacation. Play beach volleyball, go jet skiing, visit the casino and take part in a host of other fun mini-games. The volleyball and jet skiing are free, but other activities require tickets that must be purchased using zacks from the sports shop.

Voyeurism is also encouraged – players are equipped with a manual focus camera to take snaps of the bikini-clad girls. A new auto focus camera can be purchased from the shop to make taking those perfect pics even simpler.

Some of the activities the girls can take part in include a hopping game over some floating pads, pressing the corresponding coloured button to make a successful hop; a floatation game in which girls try and push each other from a boat; a beach flag game in which the race is on to grab the flag in a track and field type activity; a water tug of war; and a water slide.

Speaking of the jet ski game, Itagaki said: “It’s still in development, but just moving around on the water feels good. The foundation is solid, so it seems that no matter what rules you add, it will be interesting.” Tricks are now being worked into the game and Xbox Live play will be present. Beach volleyball is receiving some big changes, notably to the camera which now remains focused on the court, rather than trying to follow the ball. There’s also been a change in the way points are rewarded.

Despite the efforts to improve on the game mechanics, it’s the girls that provide the main attraction and Itagaki has been sure to give them plenty of attention. “We spent all of April, May and June doing motion capture,” said Itagaki. In total the game will feature over 170 gravure scenes, and although there are around 15 per character, the game will allow each scene to be acted out by a single character. Build up a relationship between two girls and you’ll also unlock pair gravure scenes featuring the two girls.

It might sounds like a flimsy excuse for a game, but Itagaki reckons it’ll take 20-30 hours to complete with a single character, and he thinks everyone should complete the game with at least two girls.

DOAX2 is currently expected to arrive at some point in the winter.
