Gameloft’s kart racing game Disney Speedstorm isn’t wasting time with announcing new characters, despite its early access launch just this week.
The racer, which takes a bunch of Disney favourites and puts them on a range of courses themed across a number of different Disney worlds, has already revealed its first new character that will be coming in Season 2 of the game once it arrives.
Revealed on the D23 Twitter, that racer will be none other than Steamboat Mickey – a version of Mickey Mouse based on the character’s first appearance in the black and white cartoon Steamboat Willie released back in 1928. The tweet also claims that the character will be released in Season 2, which is expected to arrive in the summer.

The game launched on Tuesday in a paid early access form, with its first season themed around the Pixar movie Monsters Inc and including characters like Sulley & Mike. It’ll eventually be free to play, but for the time being, access can only be granted by purchasing a Founder’s Pack, of which there are three. You can read more on that in our guide to Is Disney Speedstorm free?
Other characters already in the kart racer include Mickey, Donald Duck, Goofy, Hercules, Beast and Jack Sparrow as well as more obscure characters like Figment – a purple dragon who’s one of the mascots based at the Epcot theme park at Walt Disney World. Developer Gameloft has promised it’ll add more characters and more tracks with every season, so surely it’s only going to be a matter of time before we find out who else will be joining Steamboat Mickey in being added to the Disney Speedstorm roster.
Disney Speedstorm is available now in early access on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. It’s expected to leave early access by “late 2023/early 2024”.
