Disney Infinity 3.0 will release in the UK on August 28 on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U, Disney has announced.

The game will be available to purchase in a Starter Pack containing a Disney Infinity base, Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic Playset and two physical characters, or, if you already own a compatible base, as a cheaper software-only upgrade.

Opt for the latter and you’ll be able to use all of your existing characters in the Disney Infinity 3.0 Toy Box, the latest version of the game’s world-creation tool. To play any of the new campaigns you’ll have to purchase the physical Playsets separately.

The date means that Disney’s latest toys-to-life game will land one month ahead of rivals Skylanders Superchargers and LEGO Dimensions, which are both due to release in late September.

A Playset based on Pixar’s latest movie Inside Out is also expected to be available sometime around the game’s launch, with a second Star Wars set – Star Wars: Rise of the Empire – due to arrive on October 2.
