Dirge of Cerberus is an action game set in the world of Final Fantasy VII, and revisits many of the characters and locations from the RPG as well as the CG animated movie FFVII: Advent Children.

The game is set three years after Meteor’s attack on the planet and stars the enigmatic Vincent Valentine, who must battle against the military organisation known as Deepground.

The game has already achieved a staggering launch in Japan, literally flying of shelves, but it wasn’t met with great acclaim by the video game press. Thankfully the game’s Western release has been tweaked in the hope of creating a more enjoyable experience. Amongst other things, Vincent’s run speed has been upped, aiming speed has been increased, and a double jump move has been added.

There’s also a new extra hard mode and more than 40 new special missions in the place of the multiplayer mode present in the Japanese release (multiplayer required a hard disk drive).

You’ll have to wait until November to find out whether or not all the changes have made for an all round better Dirge of Cerberus experience.
