Blizzard has confirmed a brand-new Diablo crossover is on the way… for Diablo Immortal. As the main Diablo 4 release goes silent until the release of Season 10, the slightly-reviled mobile spin-off is getting yet another crossover event.
Announced in a lavish cinematic trailer, Diablo Immortal is crossing over with Blizzard’s very own popular card game Hearthstone in a limited-time event.
Diablo and Hearthstone crossover is great for Immortal players
The new event, which runs from July 30 to August 27, gives players the chance to earn new rewards for both Diablo Immortal and Hearthstone.
Diablo Immortal isn’t the only game in the series to get crossover events. In fact, it wasn’t that long ago that Diablo 4 had its crossover with the popular manga series Berserk which contained a few free cosmetics and other very expensive cosmetics in the store.
However, Immortal x Hearthstone’s crossover actually has a tonne of content for players to actually experience as well as the usual crossover gubbins. If anything, it puts the main game’s efforts to shame.
During the month-long event, players will be able to collect a total of 18 Hearthstone cards that all have different buffs and debuffs. Additionally, there’s an entirely new game mode built around the new mechanic that allows you to earn brand-new familiar skins and cosmetics based on Warcraft characters.
When Blizzard’s Diablo 4 events simply recycle the same tired Mother’s Blessings and Gift of the Tree runs, it’s impossible to not look at Immortal and realise that free-to-play players are treated better than paying customers.
Even worse, when Diablo 4 gets an event, so does Immortal. The aforementioned Berserk event was bizarrely more impactful in Diablo Immortal where players were given a new limited-time boss and a new feature called The Eclipse, a recreation of Berserk’s mind-blowing event that changed the entire state of the story for decades.
Blizzard is teasing some great things for Diablo 4 with a new expansion on the way that seems to be bringing back the Paladin class.
Unfortunately, for a live-service title that keeps doubling down on unexciting seasons instead of content that pushes the game forward, it’s hard to feel like the game is actually giving players their money’s worth when the free alternative gets so, so much more.
