Blizzard has announced that controversial mobile game Diablo Immortal will now launch on PC too and it’s coming this June.

As per the announcement, the game will be an ‘open beta’ on PC, but will include full cross-play & cross-progression support. It won’t just be a straight port either, with bespoke controls for the home computer version. One of these will function similar to traditional Diablo controls with left click to move and right click for actions. However, the game will also include WSAD directional controls and controller support too.

Answering the question of why the studio decided on a PC release alongside mobile, the studio gave the following explanation. “On one hand, we felt that we wouldn’t be doing the title justice by releasing a game originally designed for mobile on PC. On the other hand, we wanted to make sure the game reached as many players as possible—especially our most dedicated PC fans. In the end, the deciding factor was that we knew many of you would attempt to play this game through an emulator, thus leading us towards building a better experience.”

Blizzard say that the PC release is something of an experiment. “We didn’t originally plan to put this game on desktop,” they claim. “But as soon as it became a possibility, we knew we had to take the time to make it happen”. The announcement of the game all the way back in 2018 was met with controversy, with fans expecting Diablo 4. That instead was revealed one year later; though it likely won’t arrive until 2023.
