A mere day after Blizzard disabled the unique ability of The Umbracrux unique dagger, the Diablo 4 dev team has now re-enabled it after issuing its latest hotfix. As part of the new patch, the developers “fixed an issue where an extremely large amount of experience could be earned when a totem from the Umbracrux was present when completing certain boss encounters.” This means you’ll no longer be able to gain 20+ levels when deploying its shade totem ability.

Adam Fletcher, Diablo’s global community development director, announced its return via X (formerly Twitter) and on Blizzard’s official forums. Predictably enough, most players were surprised at the quick fix since Fletcher stated in a separate post that its return depended “on testing this morning,” which seems to have gone smoothly based on its near-seamless reintroduction.

In addition to The Umbracrux unique ability fix, this latest Diablo 4 Season 5 patch “fixed an issue where Tempering certain Greater Affixes could lead to unlimited re-rolls.” Unfortunately, tempering is still often hit-or-miss and remains frustrating, especially when you’re hunting for a specific affix, so you’ll have to wait for a different patch for the re-roll change you’ve been waiting for.

The latest hotfix also addressed an issue with the Malignant Altar of Varshan and a problem that somehow gave Sorc players Rogue-exclusive items when opening season journey caches. Of course, if you’re waiting for bigger changes, you may have to remain patient for a while since Season 5 only recently began. But with the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred DLC release date coming soon, massive tweaks and balance updates may be few and far between.
