Devolver Digital, the indie publisher that put out gems such as BroForce, Genital Jousting, and Reigns — a game about how it’s really hard being in charge of a whole country and you might end up dying hated and alone — will host demos at Game Developers Conference 2017 for developers affected by the current immigration ban in the United States.

ICYMI over the weekend, the ban is an executive order recently signed by President Trump. It prevents citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemem from entering the USA for the next 90 days.

This period covers GDC 2017, which is taking place in San Francisco from February 27 to March 3. Any developers originally from those countries won’t be able to attend the conference.

Enter Devolver Digital, and their offsite location near the conference they’re calling Devolver Underground. They’re offering to host game demos on PCs and HTC Vive sets for devs who now can’t go to GDC because of the ban.

Mike Wilson, Devolver’s co-founder, commented on the decision in the announcement sent out today:

‘One of my favourite things about games is that they are truly global in nature, transcending borders and cultural differences more seamlessly than other art forms, and working with different people from all over the world with wildly varying backgrounds has been a huge part of Devolver’s success and of our personal enjoyment of what we do. We are happy to have the opportunity to help create a bridge in some small way for some of the talented developers who will unfortunately be unable to attend this year’s GDC.’

This makes Devolver the latest of a few games companies that have weighed in on the ban.

If you’re a creator who has had their GDC plans affected and you want to apply, details can be found on Devolver’s website. Submissions are open until February 20.
