Devil’s Third’s online multiplayer mode features microtransactions that allow players to instantly unlock new weapons and outfits, according to a new report.

As reported by Nintendo Life, players are able to purchase ‘Golden Eggs’ using real money, which can allegedly be used to acquire new items or traded for in-game currency.

“Some items, including projectiles and hugely destructive X-Type weapons, can only be bought with these eggs, in some cases costing a lot of them,” the site says.

Additional outfits, too, can apparently only be purchased using eggs.

A batch of Golden Eggs is said to be offered to the player the first time they boot up the multiplayer component, with additional eggs supplied to players for making “small steps of progress”.

“As we’ve said though, some items need plenty of eggs to buy, so time will tell whether the balance of driving microtransactions and being fair to those happy to grind will be reasonable,” Nintendo Life states.

While the news may disappoint some fans, the inclusion of microtransactions in Devil’s Third’s multiplayer comes as little surprise following the announcement that it is to be ported to PC as a free-to-play title next month.

Devil’s Third Online features the same multiplayer component included with this month’s Wii U game, packaged as a standalone free-to-play experience. The single-player campaign will remain exclusive to Wii U.

Devil’s Third launches on Wii U on August 28, with Devil’s Third Online expected to arrive on PC in September.
