Destiny 2 had a rough 2024. Throughout large portions of the year, fans were not thrilled with the state of the game, and this resulted in many pessimisms about not only the future of D2, but also the future of Bungie moving forward. While the community is still largely pessimistic about Bungie making the game great again, there is at least finally some good news that Destiny 2 players are praising as a “massive W”.

As per the 2025 roadmap, there is plenty happening in January for D2. There is the start of Revenant Act 3, this will be followed by a patch delivering several big buffs and nerfs, and then we have Bungie’s annual Game2Give charity fundraiser, for which a stylish cel-shader has leaked.

The year truly starts with Revenant Act 3 on January 7th, but, for the time being, Destiny 2 players have some good news.

Destiny 2 players praise Bungie announcement

Via the BungieHelp account on X, the developer has announced a sudden change for Destiny 2. Per Bungie, “Due to an issue where Guitar errors are appearing in this week’s featured Nigthfall, Liminality, it has been changed to Birthplace of the Vile”.

Not only has the GM been changed as above, but Bungie additionally switched the featured weapon to the Rake Angle glaive.

While it’s unfortunate that the year is basically kicking off with another error, players are not annoyed as they are largely happy with the changes. Many of the replies on X are calling the announcement a “massive W,” and one of the reasons is because players prefer the glaive to the Shadow Price auto weapon that was originally intended.

On Reddit, there’s similar delight over the change from Bungie. One of the top replies succinctly explains that it is the “easiest GM in rotation with the most desirable weapon,” and it has “Double drops as well”.

Another comment says it’s “Also the easiest way to farm Scorn kills for the seasonal challenges,” while another reply says Bungie “changed it to the easiest NF of the season for the new NF weapon that people want. Different modifier and double drops. They must REALLY be trying to pull in some people to raise active players”.

It’s not lost on many of the community that this good news has only come about through an error, but, regardless, the switch has pleased the fanbase. There is hope that it will raise the active player count as, at the end of 2024, it reached dangerously low levels with people sounding the alarm bells that Destiny 2 is dying.
