Destiny 2 is nearly eight years old now. Over the course of the game’s lifespan, it underwent a lot of changes, even removing the original game’s campaign. With new content and story coming to the game every season, Destiny 2 players are begging Bungie to stop loading players into missions as soon as they start the game.
Taking to the Destiny 2 Reddit, one player noted that this move only “confuses new players”. Another player was quick to jump in on the conversation as they recounted the time they attempted to introduce their friend to the game only for them to be roped into an intro mission during the Season of Plunder, with no context as to what was happening. After completing the mission they returned to orbit only to be bombarded with numerous ads for the game’s Season Pass and more. According to the user, their friend uninstalled the game “less than 2 hours later”.
Even for established players this can be a problem as user IBJON said, “It was also annoying when they did it after major changes like light 3.0, armour mod/loadout changes, etc. Nothing sucks more than being thrown head-first into a mission with a s**t-tier build and not knowing how everything works yet”.

Other players were quick to mock Destiny 2’s overall confusing narrative and layout with one player saying, “Since it confuses new players it’s actually a great intro to the rest of the game.” Alongside this, Destiny 2’s constantly shifting narrative and the removal of the game’s initial campaign seems to have scared off some early players who have returned to the game.
User masonicone noted they had started Destiny 2 in 2018 but due to computer issues put the game down until 2020. When they booted up the game again they were beyond confused. They said, “Popped on again I wanna say around the end of 2020 and I had no idea what the hell was going on. Threw me into the intro to Beyond Light and not going to lie just stopped playing again as I had no idea what the hell was happening”.
Whether there are takeaways Bungie can take from this to make Destiny 2 more appealing to newcomers is anyone’s guess but for the time being you better start brushing up on your lore if you want to even keep up with Destiny 2’s continuing storyline.
