Destiny 2 is celebrating developer Bungie’s 30th anniversary with a bunch of limited time additions to the shooter.
Proceedings kick off today, with a bunch of free activities including a new free Dares of Eternity activity. Six matchmade players will find themselves in Xur’s Treasure Hoard where they’ll meet the mysterious figure and a horse made out of stars. Xur will spin a giant wheel, and it’s your task to impress the horse, we’re told. You’ll have to find out for yourself exactly what that means.
Elsewhere you can pick up a new exotic quest featuring a sidearm bearing a passing resemblance to Halo‘s iconic pistol. It’s not the only nod to Bungie’s former series, as there’s also a cache of weapons inspired by the studio’s past. There’s also a premium “30th Anniversary Pack” you can buy for even more weapons.
Purchasing that pack will also get you access to the new Dungeon on the Cosmodrome. This new arena is based on the famous Loot Cave from the first game, and those who run it get an equally nostalgic treat. Namely, the famous Exotic Rocket Launcher known as Gjallarhorn.
Bungie also promise plenty of new and classic gear to collect, along with some surprises they’re keeping under their hat. You’ll have to dive into Destiny 2: Beyond Light to discover them. The Destiny 2 Bungie 30th Anniversary event kicks off today, and you can check out the trailer below. Following this party, the next expansion Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is set to arrive on February 22, 2022.
