Izanagi Games has shed a little light on Death Come True, the new full motion video game directed and written by Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka (via Gematsu).
The story of Death Come True is one of deception, determinant characters, and untimely demise(s). The protagonist, Makoto Karaki, awakens in a strange hotel room with no recollection of how he ended up there or who he is. When he switches on the TV, he sees that he is wanted for a string of grisly murders. “Is this a movie? Or a game?” the game’s description reads. “A story that begins by your choices.” Karaki has the power to Time Leap, which means he is thrust into the past when he is killed. Manipulating the Time Leap to find out the truth, the player will determine the fate of Karaki and the six other characters in the hotel through their branching narrative decisions.
Karaki is played by Kanata Hongou, who also stepped into the shoes of Danganronpa series hero Makoto Naegi in its stage adaptation, and he portrayed Ryota Mitarai in Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School. With Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka at the helm, this game will doubtlessly be a darkly humorous dive into the human psyche with a helping of fourth wall breaks. Izanagi Games CEO Shinsuke Umeda would also like to bring Death Comes True to as many people as possible.
“Death Come True will be available as paid content,” said Umeda. “We plan (hopefully) to release on multiple platforms, including home consoles. Review and other procedures are ongoing, and tentatively platforms and price will be announced this weekend.” He added that the team are working on “multiple subtitle languages” for the “interactive content”, and that the game will be pitching towards a release window of 2020.
Death Come True will be released in 2020 in Japan.
