Dear Esther started life as a research project, became an experimental Half-Life 2 mod, got rebuilt by Mirror’s Edge environment artist Rob Briscoe, and was finally signed-up for commercial release on Steam by Valve.

Rather than traditional gameplay the focus of Dear Esther is on exploration, uncovering the mystery of the island, who you are and why you are here.

After building a considerable following in the indie scene, the game has been granted a February 14, 2012 release on Steam.

Steam integration is currently being finished, and you can expect a Dear Esther page to appear on Steam soon. The game will sell at $9.99.
