The PC version of Zombie-killing RPG Dead Island has suffered from quite a few problems – mainly due to be a dev build rather than the final code – and it seems a patch to fix these issues will lead to more heartache. For some players, their game saves will be wiped.

“We tried every avenue possible in order to avoid fans having to wipe their saved games… this update may cause incompatibilities between the incorrect version of Dead Island that was released and the fixed version and cause a wipe on saved games,” read a statement from publisher Deep Silver.

Not good news, but the publisher has found a solution should users find their game saves have been wiped.

“However, we have a solution to help regain some quest progress: When the game opens, select New Game -> Select the same character as you were using before, and then there will be an option for “Chapter Select” which will allow the player to jump to the last chapter they were playing in.”

If you’re angry about the game’s problems Deep Silver has promised to deliver a “make up” to fans in the future.
