UPDATE: Dead Island: Epidemic will release in 2014, Deep Silver has confirmed.

“I can only recommend giving dead island epidemic a try,” Deep Silver creative director Guido Eickmeyer said in a Reddit AMA. “Honestly, I love this one and it will be out next year. So whilst not being an MMO, i think you should have a close look. Especially if you are an multiplayer entusiast [sic].”

ORIGINAL STORY: Deep Silver has announced Dead Island: Epidemic, a free-to-play Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena game – or ZOMBA – heading to PC.

Dead Island: Epidemic sees three teams fighting against each other in a “desperate fight for survival”, and is said to feature “all the trademark elements that are part of a Dead Island experience”.

It isn’t yet known who is developing the title, or whether Dead Island creator Techland is developing it in tandem with Warner Bros’ Dying Light.

More on Dead Island: Epidemic will be announced at Gamescom later this month.
